NorthwoodsNews.com, a division of Kim Swisher Communications, LLC., was born in late 2020 as a digital collaboration committed to aggregating, sharing and crafting upbeat and accurate news and information for the Northwoods of Wisconsin.
We are focused on informing our readers, sharing information about our region, and becoming a reliable source of all of the good things in the Northwoods.
In addition to being a source of news and information about the Northwoods, you'll find unique stories, the Northwoods Foodie, stories on culture and the arts, and information for residents about our local governments.
We are always seeking opportunities to collaborate with writers, photojournalists, videographers and anyone who has a passion for sharing their work with our readers. If you're interested in working together, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Kathy joined Kim Swisher Communications, LLC., after working as a freelancer for four years. Luckily for us, she enjoys research and is an experienced journalist.
She earned a degree in urban planning from the University of Cincinnati, and then served as a journalist and photographer in the U.S. Army. She later received certificates in web and graphic design, and has freelanced for a variety of organizations.
Her husband Dave is also a journalist and a veteran. They traveled the world together before landing here in the Northwoods, within hailing distance of her hometown of Marquette, Michigan.
Kathy's passions are history, art and architecture, with an ever-growing book collection to match.
She and her husband own two Victorian-era houses, both in a constant state of renovation!
Karla’s years of media background include working as a graphic artist for a number of daily and weekly newspapers and advertising publications in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.
Karla has also worked in television as a studio camera operator and as a Jumbotron camera operator for the Hodag Country Festival.
From Marquette to Wausau and La Crosse, she is a seasoned professional who has worked with many customers, even collaborating with graphics production firms in India along the way.
An avid traveler, Karla has made dozens of international trips to Europe and Asia, as well as across Canada from Halifax to Vancouver.

He is also an experienced graphic designer and digital art director who seeks pixel perfection.
While Dan's skill set is vast, he has a passion for aerial photography and the challenges of aerial video. "My wish is to combine my experience and passion to deliver the best creative content to our clients and their audiences. I also love caffeine."
Dan is married to Erica, and they have four boys, four cats and a dog.
Video Editor and Videographer
Bob has a life-long interest in photography, video production and technology. A recent resident of Eagle River, he has a wide variety of experience in video production, multimedia conversions and photo/video presentations, and ran his own videography business for 15 years. At KSC, he is able to combine the technical with the creative, and indulge his love of learning new software and tricks of the trade.
Video is Bob’s second career. His degree is in mechanical engineering, and he loves nothing more than to dig in and solve a problem, whether designing complicated industrial machinery or visualizing and editing video from beginning to end.
Bob and his wife Tammy love living in the Northwoods. They are powersports enthusiasts, and are usually found in the woods or on the water via boat, UTV or snowmobile. Fun fact… Bob is the Public Address Announcer for Eagle River’s Wisconsin Windigo Hockey Team! Let’s Go Windigo!!!
Kim is the owner of Kim Swisher Communications, LLC., and publisher of the Northwoods News.
This project has been a long-time dream for Kim, and she’s grateful for the talented and dedicated team of colleagues she’s privileged to work with.
She's been married to her best friend Mike since 1994. Together with their rat/fox terrier Bobbie, they enjoy camping and driving the backroads of Northern Wisconsin and the UP. They can be frequently seen riding their electric bikes on the beautiful and abundant trails of the Northwoods.
