Preview of Up North Beerfest 2021

It’s back!  The Eagle River Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 2021 Up North Beerfest on Friday, June 11th and Saturday, June 12th at the Hi-Pines Campground.

The Friday night event is already sold out, so don’t wait to get your tickets for Saturday.

On Saturday, the event will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. More than 30 breweries will showcase almost 150 different beers for you to enjoy. Sampling glasses, a beer guide booklet and live entertainment will be available. The nine-piece band People’s Choice, featuring a four-member horn section, will play all types of music with its specialty being Classic Rock.

Food will be available for purchase from the Rotary Club of Eagle River. Advanced tickets are $40, and tickets at the door (if available) will be $45.

Bill Ruef, owner of Some Nerve Brewing Company, located in Manitowish Waters, is excited about the classic and historical styles that they will be bringing to Up North Beerfest. Their four beers will take your taste buds on an international tour.

“We have a Marzen which is a traditional German amber lager (think ‘Oktoberfest in spring’), an ESB which is a classic British pub ale, an American Pale Ale which is unique to (you guessed it) America, and a Pre-Prohibition Pilsner which is our take on a historical American version of a traditional Czech beer,” Ruef shared.

Here are the full descriptions of the offerings from Some Nerve Brewing Company that you can taste over the weekend:

  1. The Marzen Chronicles – German Amber Lager

We put a slightly different twist on our Oktoberfest Bier to create this amber spring lager. Whether you’re taking a break from putting in the pier, sitting out by the firepit or enjoying your favorite classic sci-fi novel, this beer will help you welcome spring back to the Northwoods!

  1. War Rocket Ajax – American Pale Ale

With a kiss of Columbus and Cascade hops, War Rocket Ajax is an American Pale Ale that sports a little bite without being merciless. Hawkmen, Arborians, and every breed of Mongo will tell you – give it a try and it will become a favorite in a flash!

  1. Idris – E.S.B.

E.S.B. stands for “Extra Special Bitter” – but don’t let that misnomer scare you off. This British pub ale is nicely balanced featuring tasty malty, caramel-y notes. Idris was the first beer we brewed here at Some Nerve!

  1. Dixon Hill Pre-Prohibition Pilsner

The wave of immigrants that came to America in the 19th and early-20th century brought with them a love and skill for beer. This pilsner is a recreation of what they likely made then, using new-world ingredients to brew their old-world recipes.

Christie Smith, owner of Rocky Reef Brewing Company in Woodruff, described their Beerfest lineup in great detail:

“We are bringing Nice Pineapples! which is a pineapple blonde ale. We use fresh pureed pineapple in this one. It is super refreshing and perfect for summertime. Then we have Little Red Hen which is our Amber Lager. It is lighter but a decent amount of malt in the background,” she shared.

“Up next is Cloud Snacks – Milkshake IPA. This one is pillowy and soft on the palate with the perfect amount of hops and rounds out with a touch of vanilla and lactose. Very delicious! And lastly is Karate Boots – Fruit Punch Sour. This one is super tart but loaded with five different fresh fruits which keeps you coming back for more.”

We’re thirsty just thinking about the choices available!
