In Search of a Peanut Butter Burger: Erin’s Pub and Grub
By K. Woodzick, Editor
A peanut butter burger. While it may sound odd to some, this was one of my go-to comfort foods in both undergrad and graduate school.
When I went to Luther College in Decorah, IA, a favorite Sunday evening meal was a peanut butter burger with cheese curds and a Blue Moon at T-Bocks Sports Bar and Grill. I would grab a table and study. I was convinced that the peanut butter burger fueled my brain cells. In Boulder, CO, Dark Horse called it a Jiffy Burger and I switched out a Blue Moon for a White Rascal from Avery Brewing Company.
A good peanut burger can be hard to find. That’s why I was delighted when I discovered that Erin’s Pub ‘N’ Grub featured this burger on their menu. Bonus: they serve it with crispy bacon. When I was asked by my team where we should get my birthday lunch from, the decision was easy to make.
This burger is not for the faint of heart. The generous helping of beef sits on a hearty roll. It’s a burger that fills a primal need for comfort and meat. (Ron Swanson would definitely order this burger, please and thank you.) The tater tots that accompanied the burger had the perfect balance of warmth and crispness.
One of my teammates loved her order of the avocado bites. She declared that “These crunchy bites pair great with avocado ranch. Tasty, crunchy and creamy. Delicious.”
We’re big fans of Erin’s in general at our office. Their pizza is mouth-watering and the epic combination of taste and texture keeps us coming back for more.
One of our team members shared, “The sauce is sweet and a bit tangy, and the sausage is perfect! I love this pizza, and look forward to the special treat when we’re able to get carryout. The ride home is tortuous but worth it when I get home and we dive in!”
The kitchen is always innovating, offering specials that set this place a part. It’s no wonder that their reviews are filled with multiple customers saying the same thing: “Great food, amazing service.”
When the powerful storms came through Eagle River last month, Erin’s was one of the few restaurants who was able to keep their doors open, providing a respite for folks who had sustained damage and power outages from the night before. Great food, kind people — this is the kind of Northwoods spot that creates community when we need it most.
Erin’s Pub ‘N’ Grub is open Monday through Saturday from 11:00 am to midnight. Please visit their Facebook page for specials and updates.
